And my final tally:

The Pit and the Pendulum – Edgar Allan Poe
A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens
Last of the Mohicans – James Fenimore Cooper
Clarissa – Samuel Richardson (longest book of my life!!!)
Aesop’s Fables – Aesopus

And that is a total of 28 books. Pretty damn pathetic for an English Major!

You are so right about some of these books being not a "week reader." Take for example, Clarissa, which took me half of a semester to read. Seriously.

As for my all time favorites... I actually have a shelf on my bookshelf dedicated to those. Now it does include some children's books as well as plays, but I'll just give you the books:

-The Velveteen Rabbit, Margery Williams
-The Suitcases, Anne Hall Whitt - It's a bio and it's has been one of my faves since I got it in middle school
-The Jazz Age Stores, F. Scott Fitzgerald
-Cold Sassy Tree, Olive Ann Burns
-Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury
-To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee
-Of Mice & Men, John Steinback
-Harriet the Spy, Louise Fitzgerald
-The 21 Balloons, Pene Du Bois
-The DaVinci Code, Dan Brown

For some reason I've read 18 or so on this list. My favorites are as follows:

1. The Lord of the Rings (yes, it is the best book in the world, better than the Bible)
2. Pride and Prejudice
3. The Hyperion and Endymion series by Dan Simmons (4 books)
4. The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (but not the Parable of the Talents)
5. The Book of Mercy by this author from Texas whose name I can't remember now, but the book is great
6. What We Have to Live With by Marilyn Krysl (poetry)
