Elliot, Audrey and I took a short road trip to spend some time with Peter’s family; we met up in Durango, CO. The morning we were set to leave, Elliot came running into our room and shouted: “IT’S VACATION DAY”. Repeatedly.

Google maps told me that Durango is 7 hours from our house. It took 10 1/2 hours to get there. Clearly, google maps needs an “I’m traveling with a preschooler and toddler” option to help its time algorithm.

As it turns out Audrey only likes to ride in the car for about 1 1/2 hours before she’s done. Her crescendo of “OUT PEAS” “PEAS OUT” “NO LIKE” was only stopped by stopping the car. We visited a nice rest area north of Colorado Springs, had lunch in Walsenburg, had ice cream in Alamosa and played on a swing set in a church parking lot in Pagosa Springs. There was plenty of time for naps. But no naps were taken.

When we finally arrived in Durango there were cousins to play with and grandparents to dote. The following day, we rode the Durango Silverton train. The scenery was amazing; places you simply cannot see from a car.

It was fun to get to spend so much time with our nephews; they’re great kids. Elliot was completely enamored with his older cousins. Audrey too, but it took her longer to warm up to them.

Doing the Limbo

Today Elliot was telling me something that seemed right up to a point (I wish I remember what that was)…. then he said, “and we had to limbo under it.” I asked, “and we limboed under it?” and he stared at me and replied, “YES. We LIMBOED under it.”

I wish I knew where he learned to limbo.
