Audrey Turned One

Audrey’s no longer a baby.

If you ask Elliot, she’s a big girl now. She’s grown. Not as grown as him, but grown nonetheless.

We had a little bit of cake and presents for her tonight. She already had a party. Elliot gave her a little monkey toy that she liked fine until she saw her present from Uncle Joshua. A dolly stroller. All for her. Or at least whenever Elliot will let her play with it.

She has just the two bottom teeth. And she’s not walking… yet. We think she’ll walk within the month. A friend likened her to a Capuchin monkey. She likes to put her head on your shoulder while you’re holding her. Which is never often enough, in her opinion. Elliot is still the light of her life. His is the only name worth trying to say. Well, his and George’s.

We’ve taken a lot of pictures of Audrey in the last year (I suppose if I tagged, I would know exactly how many). But here’s the first:

Party Out of Bounds

Today we had Audrey’s FIRST birthday party. I don’t think she liked it very much. Her brother, Elliot, sure did though.

Last night I was at the office when Elliot was ready to go to bed. He called me to say goodnight, or at least that’s what he told his daddy he wanted to do. He asked me if I was coming home. I said no and that I’d see him in the morning. The rest of the conversation went like this:

Elliot: you come home mommy, peeze

Me: I’d really like to honey but I can’t. I’ll see you in the morning.

Ellliot: Peeze peeze come home mommy. Mommy come home now peeze. Peeze?

Boy did I feel like mother of the year. Fortunately, Peter called me again shortly after Elliot was in bed to report that as soon as Elliot hung up the phone he was fine. He read a book and completely forgot that I wasn’t there.

Not sure which is worse.

Sadly, this is how Audrey has looked for the last few weeks. She’s teething and is very unhappy about it. She’s also cruising, crawling with her tummy off the floor and chatting.

Her favorite toys are either those she can shove in her mouth or those that Elliot is playing with. If he had it, it must be wonderful! She pushes her bike around the house and yard and happily lets Elliot push her on it.

Audrey is doing so many new little things: she took the comb from my hand after a bath the other night and rubbed it on her head, not exactly right but the right idea; she’s trying to eat with a spoon; she’s taken a new interest in books and toys. She can climb the stairs! I think we made Elliot learn to come down them before he was allowed to go up – but she suffers from 2nd baby syndrome, so we’re less rule oriented. There’s something to ponder… we did what we did with Elliot for a reason. We don’t do it with Audrey. Is it because we were overly cautious with him? Or do we not have the energy this time around? I think the answer is somewhere in the middle.

When Audrey’s not sad and trying to shove her entire fist in her mouth, she’s a lot of fun. So interactive! Peek-a-boo is a favorite, expecially if Elliot is the other player. She likes George and says, “KAH” everytime she sees him. She also says something that sounds vaguely like “water.” “Hi” and “bye” are sensible but are obvious if she’s waving.
